Eau D’Italie: Jardin DU Poete

I’ve been marinating on my sample of Eau d’Italie Jardin du Poete since I received it at the end of March. Jardin du Poete is the exact opposite of Orange Sanguine that I recently wrote about; there’s nothing linear about it. I wore it almost every day a couple of weeks ago and I smell something different every time I wear it! It’s been a warm few weeks, more like July than June here in Colorado, and it’s the ideal weather for this scent to sing.

Jardin du Poete meant to mimic a Sicilian garden, which I have never been to, but I can certain imagine it after wearing the fragrance. My personal impression is a vague memory of living in Orange County in the summer and smelling the hot sun bake the orange trees. A more recent memory would remind me of sitting in my backyard, smelling my tomatoes basking in the sun. I’ve spent more time in my backyard in the last year than the entire time I’ve lived in the house, and nothing beats sitting in the shade in the summer, with tomato vines and damp lawn perfuming the air and the breeze blowing through the aspen trees.

To wear Jardin du Poete is to wear a garden, to sit in my backyard and smell my tomatoes. It’s is herbal, ever so slightly bitter, alongside the sweet citruses. I like the addition of grapefruit in the top that adds bitterness and an almost salty quality to the fragrance. I get hints of mint and basil mixed together with the citruses. I appreciate the pepper in here too; it think it helps the citrus in the top feel more zesty. After I’ve worn this for a few hours, the musk and vetiver are more pronounced.

If you love a citrus cologne for the summer, but want something with a little more character and lasting power to it, Jardin du Poete is a great fragrance to look at. It’s also a great one for dipping your toe into the world of “green” fragrances. Jardin du Poete is firmly in the “green” world, but on the softer end of the spectrum. The musk and vetiver to soften the edges of the green-ness.

I got my sample at LuckyScent, check it out if you are wanting a new warm weather fragrance!
