Escentric molecules: Molecule 01 + iris

I wear a sweatshirt every morning, regardless of what the season is. I like to feel cozy and comforted when I wake up and start the day. I always feel a little vulnerable in the morning, wondering what the day will bring for me. I am finding that my taste in fragrance has changed, leaning more towards the softer, close to the skin fragrances. Highly unusual for me; I’m not one to shy away from loud and bold fragrances. So it was extra surprising to me that of the newer Escentric Molecules Molecule One + series, Molecule 01+ Iris was my favorite.

When I wear Molecule 01+ Iris, it feels like putting on my morning sweatshirt. It’s like snuggling under a blanket at the end of a long day, stretching out and finally relaxing. Molecule 01+ Iris is smooth and powdery and it sinks deep into my bones. It almost feels like it spreads through my whole body from where I sprayed it, enveloping me and giving me a hug.

I’ve often heard iris described as an old school lipstick smell, but I have no reference point for that. My mom didn’t wear lipstick growing up, (except for special occasions!) and my own lipstick collection smells nothing like iris. To me, iris smells powder fresh, like the smell of a shirt worn by someone you love. Or freshly washed sheets, after sleeping in them for just one night. The fresh laundry smell still lingering, mixed with your skin after a night’s rest.

I’ve been writing a lot about linear versus non-linear fragrances recently. I have no preference for either, it’s entirely mood dependent. Molecule 01+ Iris is what I would call linear, which is likely why I find it comforting. It’s uncomplicated and easy to wear and describe. I’m am considering wearing this on my daughter’s upcoming first day of school to sooth my nerves. (I think I am more nervous that she is about school!)

I got my trio of the Molecule 01+ series from LuckyScent. I think this might be one of the only places in the US that you can get Escentric Molecules! I really enjoyed Molecule 01 + Mandarin also, my second favorite of the three. I’m still exploring the Molecule 01 + patchouli. No conclusive thoughts yet! If you like an iris note and are craving an easy scent to wear, do check out Molecule 01+ Iris!
