PerFumer H: Tobacco

Perfumer H Tobacco: “a modern interpretation of a suited gentleman, a fragrance which has a sweet masculinity to set you apart from the rest.”

I built up quite the collection of blazers, slacks and pencils skirts after years of dressing formally; my old job had a business casual dress code, emphasis on the business. I was easily the most dressed up person if I rode the bus to work. I would bring more casual clothes to work with me, if I knew I was going out for happy hour later. My days of suits are behind me though, left in a pre-pandemic time. I’ve swapped slacks for jeans and blazers for sweatshirts. I did get to a point where I enjoyed dressing up, but I have enjoyed being casual in the last year. It’s the first time in almost 10 years that I’ve been able to dress in a more relaxed fashion.

Perfumer H’s Tobacco reminds me of my old suits, the blazers collecting dust in my closet, the creases in my slacks fading from being folded the wrong way. Tobacco would have been a nice addition to my suits, but it works well with my new casual uniform too. I’ve have been wearing Tobacco a lot in this cold spring Colorado has been having. Tobacco lasts quite a bit of time on my skin, so a bottle would last you quite some time. I wore it for over 7 hours one day and I could still smell it on me.

When I wear Tobacco, it feels quiet but powerful. Tobacco smells like walking into a library, with its smell of musty books, dust floating through sunshine and peaceful quiet. The notes listed for Tobacco are bergamot, angelica, sage, patchouli leaves, tree moss, tobacco, tonka bean and musk. Tobacco smells dry to me and it has to do with the sage. Sage was abundant where I grew up in the high desert mountains and I will always associate the smell of sage with a dry landscape and feeling. Tobacco has patchouli in it to add even more depth. The bergamot lends a little light citrus to this fragrance and helps keep it from being too heavy. There is no sweetness in this at all, but the tobacco is smooth and creamy.

I’d love to be able to sample more of the Perfumer H line, as most of their fragrances sound interesting to me. I’m still searching for a vendor that ships to the US without an enormous shipping cost. In the meantime, I will be very content to wear Tobacco!
