Miller Harris: Hidden on the Rooftops
I like Miller Harris Hidden on the Rooftops so much that I was seriously considering paying 100 U.S. dollars to get it shipped to me. I initially got a sample from a generous friend across the pond, and then went on A Great Quest to find a full size bottle. Miller Harris is a niche perfumer based in London, which makes it really hard to get ahold of in the U.S. I did finally manage to find what I think is a reputable retailer on Amazon and at last, I got myself a bottle.
Hidden is so complex and has many beautiful different layers to it. When I first spray this, I get a crisp hit of lime and bergamot. The lime in this smells like the spritz from the skin of the lime, it’s soft shards of zest spraying into the air. Soft, powdery violet helps to soften the green a bit. As this dries down, there is a lovely rich scent of honey. The notes listed for this are both honey and honeysuckle flowers, giving this a powerful dose of syrupy golden scent. This is one of the only scents in my collection that has honey in it, and I love what this adds to Hidden. It makes this feel a little more wild and open, like you are outdoors in a fields and the honey bees are buzzing around in the wildflowers.
The base notes in Hidden help this feel like the outdoors as well. Vetiver, ambergris, sandalwood and musk create a wonderful mix that smell like a summer woods, dappled sunlight dancing between the branches of the trees. It smells cool and refreshing, a welcome break from the summer heat. I am realizing as I continue with this journey of fragrance writing how much I like sandalwood. This is the third fragrance I have recently purchased that has sandalwood in some layer of the fragrance and I am loving the effect it has. Sandalwood adds a cozy, comforting scent for me, especially here paired with the violet.
I like Hidden because it stays fresh on my skin for several hours. It remains bright and green and after a few hours of wear, you are left with the honey and woods mingling together. I wore this one summer day in July and could not believe how good it still smelled, even after hours of play in the hot sun. Despite the heat beating down on me, this never got overwhelming. I was surprised how long the top notes stick around too, which I think is what helps this stay so refreshing.
This will not be the last quest I embark on to try more Miller Harris fragrances. I have my eye on several others in the line. If you are U.S. based and like Miller Harris also, let me know if you have a place where you purchase the line!
