One Week, One Lipstick: Lisa Eldridge Velvet Morning

IMG_7541.jpeg

Last week I choose one lipstick to wear, and wore it every day. I am a certainly a routine driven person in most parts of my life, but not with makeup and fragrance. I was considering only wearing one fragrance all week too, but I couldn’t bring myself to do that. There are too many nice fragrances out there to only commit to one! Any ways, the lipstick that I chose to wear last week was Lisa Eldridge Velvet Decade. This was released last year in Autumn, in her second collection. It is one of the most unique colors in my collections. Lisa’s description of Decade is “a deep chocolate brown…lifted and made more wearable by blue and lively red undertones.”

I do not own or gravitate towards brown lipsticks, so I was very surprised when I purchased this last year and liked it so much! I still struggled a bit with what makeup looked good with it, so that is why I chose to wear this for the week. I wanted to get to know the lipstick better and figure out how I could use it more regularly in my makeup routines. After wearing this for the seven days, I now see how versatile this lipstick actually is! I wore this a number of different ways, with many different eye makeup looks and it looked nice with everything. I documented all of my makeup looks on my Instagram page, if you’d like to take a peek. There is a highlight called “1 Week, 1 Lip” that I saved all of the makeup looks to.

I wore Velvet Decade straight from the bullet, at full saturation, as a stain, mixed with another one of Lisa’s lipsticks, Velvet Myth and in a really sheer application over the top of lip balm. One of my favorite eye makeup looks I did with this were a chocolatey sparkly eye, where I put Mac Corduroy eye shadow all over my lid and crease, and then patted a dark sparkly brown from my Roen 75 palette on my lid. On that day, I used Decade as a blush too, and created a monochromatic chocolate brown look. I also did a couple of days with lighter, sparkly eyes, using some sparkly shades from my Natasha Denona Sunrise palette. On Sunday, I wore Mac Cranberry, one of my favorite Autumn eyeshadows to wear, and it almost made Decade look like it had plum undertones in it. I was truly surprised after a week of wear how many different looks I could do with this lipstick and also how much I liked it as a blush too.

I feel well acquainted with Velvet Decade now, and will be reaching for it a lot more in the upcoming cooler months. Heads up , if you’d like to get your hands on any of Lisa Eldridge’s lipsticks, she is rereleasing the old collections and coming out with some new colors and products October 3rd. Her releases sell out fast, so be quick to purchase them! Have a great week!
