Ormonde Jayne: Ormonde Woman

To say that I am smitten with this Ormonde Jayne Ormonde Woman would be the understatement of the year. If you are a fragrance obsessive like me, then perhaps you have the same reactions to new scents like I do. There are some scents that I sniff, and it takes me longer to figure it out. I have to wear it several times before I decide if I like it or not. And then there are some where it’s love at first spritz. Ormonde Jayne Woman was an instant love for me, and I keep liking it more and more, every time I wear it. At this point, I would say it’s worth of a full sized bottle purchase to add to my collection. Christmas is coming!

I like most fragrances that claim to smell like a forest, woods, herbs, really anything outdoors and green. This is the forest, except it feels like you have the entire forest surrounding you, with a soft hint of powdery violet and Jasmine. Upon first application, the grass oil and coriander are the strongest for me, a crisp bright green that wakes up your nose. What lingers is the beautiful violet, jasmine and the base scents that give this its forest like qualities. It’s slightly spicy from the cardamon, slightly smokey from the vetiver and deeply cozy from the sandalwood and amber. The Black Hemlock in this also adds a unique scent to the fragrance, further intensifying the feeling of being in the woods.

Since starting this fragrant journey, I’ve become rather taken with violet as a note in fragrance. As I’ve been testing and smelling more and more fragrances, I am surprised to find how much I enjoy violet. Violet is incredibly comforting, and it almost has a calming effect on me. I feel more peaceful when I wear Woman, and more at ease. Being outdoors usually helps calm me too, another tick for this lovely fragrance.

I’ve taken to wearing this in the evening, after I’ve taken off my makeup, put on my sweat pants and settled in for the evening. My family has started a nice routine of watching a movie after dinner and relaxing on the couch together. Although a small part of me does not want to associate a fragrance with this strange time in the world, I would like to remember how much time I’ve gotten to spend with my kids and husband, and how nice it feels to sit snuggled on the couch under a blanket with them. My hope is that my scent memory with Woman is associated with spending quality time with my family.
